Reclaim Arts Summer Series

Join us at Full Circle Music, 2201 Woodlawn Street in Harrisburg, PA, for our Summer poetry writing workshops in July and August. Published performance poet and playwright Maria James-Thiaw will guide you as you create word pictures that virtually fly off the page! These workshops can stand alone or be taken throughout the Summer for more impact. The more workshops you take, the more money you save. See yourself grow in skill and technique by taking one of these Summer Writing Workshops, Sunday afternoons from 2:00 to 4:00 PM:

July 20 | We Wear the Mask: Poems that Conceal or Reveal | Using Paul Lawrence Dunbar's famous poem as a reference, participants will learn about the ancestral importance of masks and consider how we use masking today to formulate a poem that speaks to our identity in the world. This cathartic writing exercise will leave you feeling free.

July 27 | Coming From Where I'm From: Poetry and Place | See how poems become a map in the new anthology Keystone Poetry, featuring Maria James-Thiaw, Sonia Sanchez, Le Hinton, Ross Gay, and other Pennsylvania poets. Using tools like ekphrasis and vivid imagery, learn to map your own surroundings using poetry.

Notebooks and pens will be provided, but you may bring a laptop if you prefer. All skill levels welcome. Participants must be over 14 years old. Questions? Email info@reclaimarts.com.

Maria [James-Thiaw]'s work makes you feel like you are looking through a revolutionary lense. She is a painter of the real with blade-sharp truth. Change stirs in my spirit every time I hear her work.

PA Poetry Society  Conference was growth for everyone there. Between the photos handed out and her talk, I felt such a stirring of creative energy flowing from a new place to paper.
